Grandpa's Chickens

At eight weeks old, Grandpa's chickens were huge and beautiful.
Saturday, August 8, was "D" Day for the 20 roosters and hens.
Brandon even tried the ax after watching Grandpa several times.
Hot bath.
Uncle Ron and I were the "pluckers" for the morning job. The farm girl in me came out... this was a first for me, but it wasn't so bad. :)
Clayton wanted to touch one!
Uncle Warren and Aunt Connie cleaned out the insides.
They had fond memories and fun stories of butchering chickens when Great Grandpa raised bunches of them in the "good 'ole days"!
Brandon carried them into the kitchen for the final cleaning.
And Grandma and Aimee "nitpicked" them clean. TEAMWORK.
Too much fun! We were all glad it was over... in less than 2 hours.
A couple roosters weighed 11 lbs. and the hens a little less all cleaned out. WOW!
Mmmm... yummy crock pot chicken at our house for dinner.
Thanks, Grandpa!
