Great Alaska ShootOut

What a fun tradition of college basketball for our family this last week at the ShootOut in Anchorage! The team line-ups weren't as impressive as in years past, but our University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) teams got to play schools from Seattle, Portland, San Diego, Illinois, and Hampton (VA). The UAA women won their 4-team tournament for the third year in a row, and the San Diego team won the men's championship on Saturday night.

With 16 games in five days, Brandon learned to keep score to focus his attention on the court, Jordan frequented the concession stand, and Clayton played his GameBoy, etc.! It was fun to have sister Aimee and "Uncle" Ken attend several sessions with us, and Dave Edens and his kids Hunter and Briana had the tickets beside ours. Weston and Stephanie Carroll's family attended one evening as well as many other familiar faces from Homer...

Most exciting were the guest appearances of the UAA SeaWolf mascot, and Governor Sarah Palin! (In the last photo, seated in the blue section, Gov. Palin's head is in the black stripe by the 216 arrow.) Her two daughters were with her, and she fed her baby a bottle and held him while he slept through the game. Aahh. She signed autographs and posed for photos during intermission.)
