Polishing Rocks

This weekend's blog was supposed to feature Brandon at his statewide Lego League ROBOTICS tournament in Anchorage ... but it was CANCELED due to weather. Yikes! Wind, rain, ice, power outages, yuck! He was very bummed. A smaller Kenai Peninsula version may be rescheduled in a couple weeks.

... So on to another passion of his ... Brandon's wish for Christmas this year was a rock tumbler to polish some of the cool finds he's been collecting over the years. His wish came true - Thank you, Grandma and Grandpa Beachy!
We were all pretty amazed at the number of steps (5) and the number of days (21 days for the first step!) it takes to get rocks smooth. So this thing turns and tumbles 24-7 in our crawlspace where we can't hear it at all. And it seems to be getting the job done; Brandon is quite thrilled!

His teacher (who also leads Robotics) did a whole unit on geology last spring. She sent home quite a few beautiful rock samples and a display case that the kids filled in. God's variety and design in creation is truly amazing. We're enjoying seeing it again through the eyes of our young scientist.
