Leave No Trace

Sheldon and I got to chaperon Brandon's 6th grade overnight field trip on the Swanson River and Kelly/Peterson Lakes up north of Soldotna May 4-5 with beautiful sunny skies! The kids had outdoor classes with two Fish & Wildlife scientists the first day, rotations of crafts, journals and observations, and compass Hide & Seek before BBQ dinner, quick hike to the river, s'mores and Dan's campfire songs.
The next morning we hiked for 2 miles along the lakes and the kids earned team points for making observations and answering questions. Brandon loves the competition!

He was most nervous about their "One Pot Meal" that they planned beforehand and brought with them in their backpacks, but cooking their vegetable/ham soup turned out to be the most fun of all!
Team "PB & J" (Patrick, Brandon, and Jonas) earned bonus points for creativity and little waste, but alas, second place was disappointing as another team came out on top overall.
What a fun trip... great kids and gorgeous weather.
We cherish the time with our #1 son!
