Fourth of July Adventure

What a glorious day for a holiday trip across the serene Kachemak Bay to Humpy Creek! Dale Conn took our family, Sam and Marilyn, and Nelson Co across on his boat. Sheldon and Ken also drove the Bubble across to provide "taxi" service to the beach. The guys were REALLY hoping to catch some dog salmon in the creek, but alas!.... Not one fish to be seen in the crystal clear waters. Shucks, we'll have to return in a couple weeks. :)So off we hiked instead... over the river, and through the woods to the tram and glacier we go!
After a couple miles, we came upon a beautiful glacier pond where we stopped for lunch. And then just around a couple more bends, we hopped in the tram and PULLED to cross Glacier Creek.
This was as close as we got to Grewink Glacier today, since half our party turned back and was waiting behind at the shore with no fish to distract them... We'll get to come back another day! With such great company, sunburns (70's - phew!), extraordinary wilderness views, and black bear sightings (I only saw the scat on the trail), we had a day to remember. The sailboat "race" on the trip home was a beautiful sight to close our Alaska adventure.
