Saturday, September 17, Homer hosted the Cross-Country Borough meet. The Lookout Trail at Olson Mountain is usually the site for XC Ski meets, but this year the kids got to run up there, too. In this warm-up lap through the red fireweed, Brandon's in the black shirt at the end.
Senior teammate Dan, wearing the vest in front of him, was the only one who ended up qualifying for State at the following weekend's Regional meet in Palmer - 17:02 - Wow!Our course is tough - lots of ups and downs and 2 min. slower than anywhere else - with an upper loop they run twice and then one lower loop to make the 5K. (3.2 mi.)
The balls of the feet up the hills with shorter strides and elbow pumps! Brandon finished this Borough Homer race in 21:58 and the Regional Palmer race in 19:20 the next week.
