Zac Brown Band

Friday, August 11, Sheldon and I had the date night of the year!  Having signed a contract to build an amazing Pioneer log home for Zac Brown in Homer, Sheldon decided we should treat some of our employees to concert tickets in Anchorage!  We drove up after stopping in Soldotna with Ken to caulk Karvonen's french doors from leaking.  Into town early, we watched Spider Man before a delicious dinner at an Indian restaurant with Matt and Tracy Early, Dakota and Emily Larson, and Ken Farnen.  To the Alaska Airlines Center by 7:30, Sheldon forgot his license, so we used the only 2 "dry" tickets up in the balcony for the highest seats, back row view of the Zac Brown Band concert! A small stadium and 2 big screens on the sides provided great views, and my seat still vibrated with every strum of the base guitar!
A Tennessee gal Megan opened for him at 8pm. with 5 songs with her acoustic guitar accompanist, and then another 20 min. of transition and set up before Zac took the stage a little before 9pm.  The seats finally filled up, and the crowd was READY!  The energy was electric... the sound LOUD and the lights BRIGHT!  He has such an amazing vocal and guitar talent, let alone the 7 band members that support him... fiddle, base, electric, and acoustic guitars, keyboard, and 2 drummers.  WOW.
Zac opened with "Not a Worry in the World" and the waves rolling on the back screen, honored Dad his son on stage with "My Old Man" in the middle, and closed 2 hrs. later with "Little Bit o Chicken Fry," and a goose bump moment with a soldier's salute on stage... Sheldon's FAVEs.  We knew all the "Greatest Hits" but weren't quite as familiar with his new "Welcome Home" album.  Such an awesome show of loud energy and foot-stompin' and then quiet and tender ballads.  The "Devil Went Down to Georgia" was an amazing display of fiddling and guitar crazy!  Others featured the keys, another the percussionists, all the smooth vocals of a true country legend.  A GREAT show and memorable evening!!
