Monday, May 2, Brandon participated in the Kenai Peninsula Middle School Mass Band. I got to chaperone this amazing day beginning with a 2-hr. bus ride to Kenai High's auditorium for all day rehearsals with 6 other Middle School bands all combined under a guest conductor from Florida. Brandon's percussion section had an individual rehearsal before they joined the 200 member band onstage to polish the pieces they'd all been preparing at their own schools.
After a couple hour break for dinner, the parents and community were invited to the evening concert in which each school band performed a couple pieces individually, and then combined for their three pieces as a Mass Band.
The last number was the Armed Forces Medley which involved the audience emotionally and elicited a standing ovation. Music is such a grand and powerful expression - what a excellent opportunity for these young performers!
